It is a recognized fact that information
is the basic foundation in coming up with concise programs and policies
for development. However, the seeming disregard for generating accurate
and reliable information has been a problem in the fisheries development
efforts. On the other hand, if ever there are available data and information,
these are scattered so that users can hardly make access to these
information easily. Cognizant of this, the Council thought of coming
up with data series on various fish commodities. Aptly, this series
also addresses the aim of the Council to be a one-stop-shop institution
wherein all the data needed by various users can be collected and
published by the Council on a continuing basis.
There were six series published namely
Tilapia, Milkfish, Tuna Data, Small Pelagics, Shrimps/Prawns and Seaweeds.
all of these are intended to benefit researchers, planners, policy-makers,
students and other users in at least saving time in collecting data
from various sources.
It is hoped that these Data Series
will be a useful handbooks for both planning and research purposes.
We express our gratitude to all those
who made these Data Series a reality.
