    NATIONAL AQUATIC RESOURCES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM
 
The NARRDS is a nationwide network of R&D institutions from the academic and government agencies composed of over 40 members which includes national and zonal centers, cooperating stations and collaborating specialized agencies which implement aquatic and marine resources R&D.
 
     
  National Centers  
 
The NARRDS has four national centers and five zonal centers. The national centers are the Central Luzon State University (CLSU), University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI), University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV), and the University of the Philippines at Los Banos (UPLB). These centers are given assignment on programs/ecosystems approach.
 
 
  • CLSU is the national center for freshwater aquaculture, reservoirs, integrated farming systems, and tilapia genetics.
  • UP-MSI programs are on coral reefs, seagrass, mangroves, seaweeds, oceanography, and biotechnology.
  • UP Visayas is assigned for projects on marine fisheries management, marine biotechnology and brackishwater aquaculture.
  • UP Los Banos programs are on inland waters ,e.g. lakes, rivers, freshwater endemic fishes, and freshwater ornamental fishes.
 
     
  The Five Zonal Centers and its Member Agencies:  
   
     
 
The Zonal Centers assist the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD) in the monitoring and management of Aquatic Resources R&D programs and projects within their assigned zones including technology promotion and information dissemination.
